World Press Photo is the world’s largest and most prestigious annual press photography contest, that organized by an independent organization in Amsterdam since 1955. The prizewinning photographs are assembled into a travelling exhibition in some 45 countries worldwide. And Indonesia is one of the 2011 world press photo exhibition destination. There are 8 prizewinning categories: Spot News, General News, People In The News, Sports, Contemporary Issues, Daily Life, Portraits, Arts and Entertainment, and Natures. These prizewinning photographs are being exhibited at Pacific Place Jakarta, presented by Media Indonesia, Kingdom of Netherlands, and Pannafoto Institute, from 16 December 2011 – 4 January 2012. Rahni Lowhur Schad, the President Director of Media Indonesia (Sponsor of World Press Photo Exhibition in Indonesia) as featured in foreword of World Press Photo catalogue, said “Our goal is to not only educate the public about the power of photography but also to raise the sense of appreciation towards printed media”.
